Spencer J. Hughes, Sr.

Troy - Spencer J. Hughes, Sr., 70, of Mountainview Avenue died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late James Hughes and Rosella Tilley Hughes and husband for 50 years of Elizabeth Bonesteel Hughes. He had resided in Troy all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1964. 

Spencer owned,  operated and was a mechanic at Spencer Hughes Sunoco in Wynantskill and later worked with his brother, Carlton at Bridge Service Center in Troy from 1987-2006.  He also was a race car enthusiast, owner and builder with his brother at Lebanon Valley Speedway for many years.   

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at his camp on Lake Ontario.    

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Spencer J. (Julie) Hughes Jr., Averill Park and Michael G. (Erin) Hughes, Apex, NC; a sister, Rosalie G. (Alton)Drake, Wynantskill; two brothers, Rev. Everett J. (Marilyn) Hughes, FL and Carlton T. (Judy) Hughes, Troy; four grandchildren, Robert, Jonathan, Jacob and Emma Hughes and several nieces and nephews. 

 At Spencer’s request there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Spencer J. Hughes, Sr. to the charity of one's choice.
