Sibyl G. (Goerold) Ross

Brunswick - Sibyl G. Ross, beloved Mom, Mimi, and “Mimi the great” and beloved by many, departed this life on January 4, 2019.

Born in Troy, daughter of the late Frederick Pfiel Goerold and Eda Theodora Backer Goerold and beloved wife of Robert Ross.

Sibyl graduated from Russell Sage College in 1956 and was employed by Rensselaer County as a Grand Jury Stenographer from 1957 to 1959. After her children were grown, she was President and owner of Birkmayer Travel Agency from 1992 to 2007. 

Sibyl was a long-time member of the Junior League of Troy and an associate member of the Van Rensselaer Garden Club. She was a member of the Town of Brunswick Youth Commission, Oakwood Cemetery Association, and the Knickerbocker Board of Directors. Sibyl was Trustee Emeritus of the Northeast Health Foundation and received the Founders Award in 2008 and was a member and past President of the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Mother’s Club of Albany Academy, the Russell Sage Alumni Association, Lansingburgh High School Alumni Association, Town of Brunswick Historical Society, and the Troy Country Club Ladies Golf Association, Thursday morning golf group, and duplicate bridge club. She was a former member of Lansingburgh Lutheran Church. Sibyl loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with her husband and daughter.

Sibyl is survived by her three children: Eda, Andy, and Bill, six grandchildren: Adam (Megan), Evan (Grace), Hunter, Taylor, April, and Anya, and two great-grandchildren: Clayton and Madison. She is predeceased by her husband Bob (2006), and brothers Donald (1936), William (1984).

The family thanks the staff and doctors at Samaritan Hospital and St Peters Hospital for their excellent care of Sibyl.

Relatives and friends may call at the Gardner Earl Chapel 186 Oakwood Avenue Troy on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 4 - 7PM.

Funeral service will be held Friday, at 10AM at the Brunswick Church 42 White Church Lane Troy, NY 12180 with Rev. Henry Kim, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.
