Rensselaer - Ruth Noord Smith, 93, of Patroon Pointe Drive died peacefully Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at her home.
Born in Albany, Ruth was pre-deceased by her parents, Henry J. Noord and Adriana Dickerman Noord; her brother, Donald and infant sister, Ruth Helen. She and her husband, Arthur, were married 37 happy years before his death in 2008.
Ruth loved music and sang in many choirs during her life. She was a soprano soloist at the West End Presbyterian Church for about 10 years and was active in the choirs and missions of the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park.
She drove patients to appointments for Catholic Charities and worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for Dr. Joseph Corsetti in North Greenbush.
Always active, she and Art drove an old, ramshackle motor home cross-country one year and upon returning, changed course by sailing up and down Lake Champlain during many summers. They later bought a better motor home and spent winters, making many new friends in Florida.
Survivors include three children, Linda (Rick) McCabe, Carol (Henry) Bluhm and David (Roberta) Wasson; her stepchildren, Barry Smith, Bruce Smith and Debbie Barbaro; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and her friend and caregiver, Nancy Desautels.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 3-5 PM at the Church of the Covenant 3055 Route 4, Averill Park with a memorial service at 5 PM with Rev. Joseph Auslander, Pastor, officiating.
