NORTH GREENBUSH - Ruth M. Mulholland, 87, formerly of Highland Court, died peacefully Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home, East Greenbush.
Born in Troy on February 15, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William A. Long and Ruth I. Penyluna Long, and the wife of the late Frederic J. Mulholland, to whom she was married for 65 years. She resided in Troy all of her life and was a 1945 graduate of Troy High School.
Mrs. Mulholland was a homemaker completely devoted to caring for her husband, sons, grandchildren, and extended family. She frequently opened her home for gatherings of family and friends. She enjoyed camping and travel and visited all 50 states at least once. She loved to garden and read, and was known for her hand-crafted greeting cards and home decor.
In the community, Ruth was a member of the First Reformed Church in Wynantskill, a Cub Scout den mother, and a long-time member of the Rensselaer County Home Bureau, where she taught art and crafts.
Survivors include three sons, Lt Col Mark F. Mulholland USAF (Retired) (Susan), Leesburg, VA, Rev. David W. Mulholland (Lee), Putney, VT and Bruce M. Mulholland (Michelle), Hebron, KY; three grandchildren: Ashley Lynn, Michael William, and Liam Nathaniel Mulholland; a great grandson, Ethan Michael Frederic Mulholland, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Mulholland, and a brother, William Long.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 9-11AM. A funeral service will follow at 11AM with Reverends Dawn Alpaugh and David Mulholland officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Immediately following the interment, friends are invited to join the family for a reception lunch to be held in her honor.
