Ruth Lillian Voellm Geddis, 83

COSSAYUNA LAKE / TROY - Ruth Geddis of Little Troy Road died on Good Friday 03/21/2008. surrounded by loved ones in Florida after a sudden illness. Born in Troy on 06/04/1924, she was the beloved daughter of the late August Voellm and Alice (Haber) Voellm, residing in Wynantskill with her four siblings. Her father passed away at an early age, Ruth

sought employment as a child care provider to be able to remain in school, and graduate from Troy High School. She met and married her late husband James E. Geddis also of

Troy, while employed at the Central Market in Troy, currently known as Price Chopper. They were married on 12/29/1944 while James was on military leave from the U.S. Navy during

World War II. They were married at Woodside Presbyterian Church where they were both long time members, and each of their five children were subsequently baptized.

During World War II, Ruth was a volunteer at the local chapters of the Red Cross and Salvation Army. Ruth s considered her precious gifts to be her love of god, her strong faith in Jesus the Christ and her family and friends whom she cherished and adored. More recently. Ruth was a communicant of Third Presbyterian Church in Troy, enjoying the fellowship of her senior card players.

Ruth worked for many years at the Holiday Inn of Menands and retired from the New York State Department of Labor. Ruth considered her primary task to be a faithful servant, devoted wife and loving mother to her children: Linda Bell of Menands, James Geddis III and his wife Mary Anne of Mechanicville, Richard Geddis and his wife Ann of Schaghticoke. Susan Miner and her husband David of Shalimar Florida, and Luanne Castle and her husband Brian of Troy. She is survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grand children whom she greatly loved and was loved by. Ruth has joined her recently deceased sister Alice Kirby of Schenectady, and is survived by her three siblings: Frederick Voellm of Wynantskill, Louis Voellm of Long Island, Barbara Lanier of Albany and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ruth will be remembered for her kindness and genuine caring towards everyone she met. As she has now begun a new journey with god, she will be sorely missed leaving an emptiness in the hearts of everyone that knew her.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. John McAuley, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-8 PM.

Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy.
