Ruth E. (Jenkins) Bostwick

Castleton - Ruth E. Bostwick, 75, of Castleton died Monday, January 9, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, Albany after a short illness.

Born in Pittsfield, MA, she was a daughter of the late Robert Jenkins and Helen Tolgate Jenkins and wife of Donald J. Bostwick. She was raised in Pittsfield, Canaan and Chatham and resided in Sand Lake before moving to Castleton and was a graduate of Chatham High School, class of 1959.

Ruth worked a variety of jobs as a single mother to raise her two children, but her passion was the natural world. She took her children to climb Balance Rock and hike Watkins Glen, and taught her grandchildren to catch salamanders and frogs. Her garden was a riotous mass of carefully tended flowers, with many feeders for the birds. She was an avid reader and a master of Words with Friends.

Survivors in addition to her husband include a son, J. Aaron (Kathy) Heintz, Newtown, PA; a daughter, Erica Heintz, Chatham, NY; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Alex Heintz and Delia McEwan; three sisters, Ellen Menegio, Peg Kratt and Roberta Eigenbrodt and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service private at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ruth Bostwick to the Chatham Area Silent Food Pantry, Tracy Memorial Village Hall Basement, 77 Main Street, Chatham, NY 12037.
