Robert L. Schatzle

Troy- Robert L. Schatzle, 93, of Pinewoods Avenue died Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on September 5, 1922, in Troy to George and Elizabeth (Frank) Schatzle, Bob grew up in Lansingburgh and was baptized at St. Augustine's Church, where he remained a parishioner for most of his life. He attended Saint Augustine's School and Lansingburgh High School, from which he graduated in 1940. Drafted in 1942, he served as a corporal in the 198th Anti-Aircraft Battalion during World War II in the Pacific, notably on Middleburg Island, and returned home in January 1946. He married Dorothy (Doyle) Schatzle on November 9 of the same year. They resided on 9th Avenue in Lansingburgh for a number of years until moving to Brunswick in the 1980s. Bob worked as a letter carrier in Troy for several decades, retiring in 1984.

Predeceased by his wife, four brothers (George, Louis, Harold and Herman Schatzle), three sisters (Ruth Anglum, Elsie Travers and Lucy Schatzle) and one grandson (Brian John Tozzi), Bob is survived by his daughter, Barbara J. Tozzi, of Brunswick, as well as three grandchildren: Christopher James (Kate) Tozzi of Laurel, Maryland; Matthew Robert Tozzi of Brunswick; and Alyssa Nicole Tozzi, also of Brunswick. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Kate Hepp.

The family wishes to thank his cousin, Grace Conroy, and the staff of Albany Medical Center, Dr. Andrew Coates, Kelli, Julia, Maria, Danielle and Christie, for their care of Bob.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 4-7 pm.   

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:45 AM at Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy and at 9:30 AM at St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery of Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Robert L. Schatzle to the Albany Medical Center NICU 43 New Scotland Avenue Albany, NY 12208 or to The Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Medical Center.
 
Bob possessed an evergreen sense of humor, which defied his aging body. He delighted in his family and lived a rich and full life until the end.
