Rita Bondi Vielkind, 84

Wynantskill - Rita Bondi Vielkind, 84,of Judd Lane died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush after a long illness on the 30th anniversary of her mother's passing.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Bondi and Anna (Gatto) Bondi and wife of the late Edward A. Vielkind.

She had resided in Troy and Wynantskill all her life and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1940, St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse class of 1944 and earned her Bachelor degree from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

Mrs. Vielkind was a registered nurse at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Troy and Albany retiring as Director of Nursing in 1981. She also worked as a private duty nurse and at St. Mary's Hospital, the Wynantskill Schools as a school nurse and the Rensselaer County Health Department.

She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She had been active in the life of St. Jude's parish including the PTA and the Annual Horse Shows held many years ago. She was a member of the St. Joseph's School and Catholic Central High School Alumni Associations and a member of the Rensselaer County Women's Republican Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Ann (John Neun) Vielkind of Clifton Park and Patricia Denise Vielkind formerly of Poestenkill; two sons, David Vincent (Annemarie) Vielkind of Wynantskill and Donald Mark Vielkind of Riverside, CA.; two brothers, Rev. Paul Joseph Bondi of St. Mary's Church Ballston Spa and Vincent J. (Leota) Bondi of Waterford; five grandchildren, John Edward and James Joseph Vielkind-Neun and Elizabeth Anne, Paul Vincent and Brandon Joseph Vielkind; three sisters-in-law, Rosemary Vielkind, Marion Colaneri and Lorraine Simmons; several nieces and nephews and her dear friends, Annette Brown and Lillian McDermott.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 PM.

Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy.
