Richard A. Petrie

Latham - Richard A. Petrie, passed into the hands of the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Van Rensselaer Manor, Troy, NY after a brief illness.

Richard was born in Herkimer, NY on March 24, 1934, the son of Albert J. and Lois M. Dodge Petrie. He was educated in the schools of Frankfort, NY and earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Buffalo State College.

Dick's entire career in education was experienced within the schools of the North Colonie Central School District in elementary classrooms and as a reading specialist before his retirement in 1989. He served his country for two years in the US Army.

Travel, reading, music, boating and an interest in the cultural events of the area were a source of pleasure in his spare time and retirement years. He was a member of First Church in Albany and served on the Board of Deacons and for many terms as a Trustee of the church.

Dick leaves many close friends to mourn his loss including Paul D. Carey of Troy. His surviving relatives are his brother and sister-in-law, Robert W. and Mary Nevin Petrie of Sun City Center, FL and Woodgate (White Lake) NY; as well as a niece, Jennifer (Eric) Serrano of Chancellor, SD and a nephew, Brian (Angela) Petrie and their twin sons, Elijah and Malakai of Brooklyn, NY. He also leaves three cousins, Alan (Beverly) Rosbrook of Victor, NY; David (Barbara) Rosbrook of Rock Hill, SC and Cynthia (Kenneth) Baldwin of Venice, FL and Brockport, NY. Richard was predeceased by his parents and an infant brother, Roger.

Relatives and friends may call at James Chapel of First Church in Albany (Reformed), 110 North Pearl Street, Sheridan Street Parking Lot Entrance, Albany on Friday from 1-3 PM.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 3 PM at the First Church in Albany 110 North Pearl Street Albany with Rev. John Paarlberg, Pastor and Rev. Dr. Gregg A. Mast, Former Pastor and President of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, officiating.

Interment will be in the family plot in Herkimer, NY.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to a charity of one's choice.
