Richard E. Dearborn, 68

Brunswick - Richard E. Dearborn died on April 7, 2013 at the age of 68. Dick was born June 4, 1944 to Lancelot and Lillian Dearborn in Troy, NY, the third of five children. He attended Catholic High School, Hudson Valley Community College, and the University of Buffalo, where he met the love of his life, Diane Kobler. Dick and Diane married in 1968 and went on to have four children: Rich, Bob, Karen, and Jimmy. Dick was known as a loving family man who was dedicated to his parents, devoted to his wife, closely bonded with his siblings, and adored by his children.

Dick lived almost all his life in Troy and he spent most of his career managing several Price Chopper grocery stores throughout the Capital District. His employees knew Dick to be a warm, compassionate people-person with a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor.

Dick was actively engaged in the community and in his family life. Following in his father's footsteps, Dick served as scoutmaster for local Boy Scout troop 516. His scouts thought so highly of him that they created t-shirts and jackets using his likeness as a logo. To his own children he was a loving father, mentor, favorite playmate, and sports coach, and he was often seen cheering on the sidelines and snapping pictures at his kids' soccer games and track meets. Dick was an avid golfer, well known for many years in the Frear Park Golf League for both his sharp wit and his uncanny skill with a putter.

Dick Dearborn was a source of love and laughter to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His aspirations in life were simple: to be a good husband, father, son, brother, and friend to the people who mattered most to him. The truth is, he was better than good. On the golf course Dick was known for dropping the long birdie putt. As a family man, he hit a hole-in-one.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Diane Kobler Dearborn; two sons, Richard (Rhonda S.) Dearborn Jr., Clifton Park and Robert J. (Mary Alice Scott) Dearborn, Las Cruces New Mexico; a daughter, Karen B. (Ed) Finney, North Greenbush; four amazing grandsons, Matthew J. and Joseph L. Dearborn and Martin E. and Morgan E. Finney; a brother, John W. (Ellen) Dearborn, Troy; a sister, Donna J. Dearborn, Fallston, MD and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lancelot and Lillian Fennell Dearborn; his son, James Dearborn and two brothers, James T. and Thomas Dearborn.
