Professor Robert Ronald Couture, 69

Menands- Professor Robert Ronald Couture, 69,of Park Lane East Apartments died suddenly Monday, March 27, 2006 at his residence.

Born in Gardner, MA, he was the son of the late Ovila Couture and Dora (Reniere) Couture and husband of Marlyn Dunlap Couture of Arlington, VT.

He was educated at Holy Rosary School, Gardner High School class of 1955, and Assumption College in Boston. He earned a master's degree from Northeastern University. Bob moved to the Capital Region after college and pursued doctoral studies at RPI.

Bob was employed as a Professor of English and Theater at Hudson Valley Community College for 30 years. He also taught English at Maria College.

He had a passion for theater. Bob founded the Roustabout Players, a community theater troupe, and directed the first 25 productions at the First United Presbyterian Church in Troy. He acted and directed with other theatrical groups, including the Circle Theatre Players and Riverview Productions, and reviewed plays for the Schenectady Gazette, WAMC, and the Bennington Banner. He was active in the First United Presbyterian Church, was an elder, deacon, trustee and member of the choir. Bob also attended services at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany; was a member of the Chorale in Bennington, Vermont; and was a past President of Troy Chromatics Concerts.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Denise Zieske and her husband John of Altamont and Kim Couture and her fiance Marty Rist of Ballston Spa; two grandchildren, Renee and Derek Zieske and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Babineau.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the First United Presbyterian Church 1915 Fifth Avenue, Troy with Rev. Alexandra Lusak, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, Monday from 4-8 PM.
