Philip J. Sweet, 53

Taborton Philip J. Sweet, 53, of Taborton Road, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Alden, NY he was son of Nathan E. and Norma Diemer Sweet of Alden and husband for 13 years of Patrice M. Therrien Sweet. He was raised on a dairy farm in Alden, NY, Erie County. He served during the Vietnam War in the US Army in the 299th Combat Engineers, designing roads and was awarded a Bronze Star. In 1972, he came to Albany and in 1992 moved to Taborton in the town of Sand Lake. He earned his A.A.S. degree from Alfred Agricultural and Technical College in Agricultural Engineering and in May of 1976 his B.A. in Business Administration and Economics from the State University of New York at Albany.

Mr. Sweet was employed at the New York State Office of Real Property Services for the past 20 years as a computer analyst specialist. Prior to that he worked for Walter Motor Truck Company in Voorheesville in the late seventies as a manufacturing data specialist and later engineering data coordinator. In the early 1980's worked for Cole-Layer-Trumble Company in Albany as a data processing project supervisor and senior analyst and later supervisor.

He was a past president of the Future Farmers of America Erie County Chapter, a member of the Alden County High School Marching Band and during his time at Alfred College played the trumpet with the band, recording an album called 'Statesman'. Most recently, he was a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park, a member of the church choir and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors in addition to his wife and parents include his son, Nathan William Sweet and his daughter Evelyn Marie Sweet both of Taborton; his second mother, Marge Schultz of Albany; a brother, Roger Sweet and Arlene of Corfu, NY; a sister, Sharon Krieger and Ralph of Alden; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dale and Bob Balawender of Cheshire, MA, Steven and Margie Therrien of Clifton Park, Dennis Therrien of Gansevoort, Danny Therrien of Chicopee, MA, John and Jean Therrien of Belchertown, MA and Thomas and Eileen Therrien of Cherry Hills, NJ; several aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:00am from St. Henry's Church in Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 in West Sand Lake, Saturday from 2-6pm.

Interment St. Henry's Cemetery in Averill Park.
