Nunzio D. Fontana

Troy - Nunzio D. Fontana, 97, of Gregory Court died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Troy Center for Rehab & Nursing after a long  illness.

Born in Cansano, Italy, he was son of the late Fortunato Marco Fontana and Nicolina  DiBartolomeis Fontana and husband of the late Maria G. DiGregorio Fontana. He was raised in Cansano, Italy until the age of 17, moving to Brooklyn where he resided until  coming to Troy at the age of 62. 

Nunzio worked in the engineering and maintenance department of the General  Post Office in Manhattan.   

He was an Army veteran of  World War II in the European Theater, earning a Purple Heart.

Survivors include a daughter, Nicolina (Charles) Breiner, Troy; a son, Marco A. Fontana, Troy; five grandchildren, Charles, David and Gregory Breiner and Marc and Carly Fontana; and 8 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 25, 2018 at 9:30 AM at the  funeral home and at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum Troy.
