Nicholas G. Sopchak

Wallingford, CT - Nicholas  G. Sopchak, 89, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Masonicare Nursing Home  Wallingford, CT after a long illness.

Born in Auburn, NY, he was son of the late Andrew M. Sopchak and Anna Friga Sopchak and husband of the late Betty Ann Castle Sopchak. He was a long time resident of Wynantskill before moving to Wallingford, CT.  He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from State Teachers College in Albany. 

Mr. Sopchak retired from the New York State Health Department after 40 years of service.  Prior to that he was the Associate Director for the Rensselaer County Department of Health.  

He was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist in Troy.    

Survivors include a son, Nicholas (Debbie) Sopchak, Cheshire, CT; a grandson, Jeffrey N. Sopchak; his sister, Anne (Michael) Speck, his sisters-in-law,  Dorothy and Mary Ann Sopchak and Doris Mooradian and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Saturday morning, July 26, 2014 from 9-11AM with a service to follow at 11AM.   Interment will be in  Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Nicholas  G. Sopchak to the Christ Church United Methodist 35 State Street Troy, NY 12180 or the Masonic Charitable Foundation, Wallingford, CT.
