Troy - Nancy Holmes Smith Hauke, 75, of Park Ridge Apartments died Monday, September 07, 2009, at Van Rensselaer Manor.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Samuel E. Holmes and Emma Francis West Holmes and wife of the late Robert J. Hauke. She had resided in Troy most of her life and was a graduate of Troy schools.
Mrs. Hauke was employed at Cluett, Peabody & Company for 20 years, helped operate the family business of Kenneth E. Smith Builders of Troy, owned and operated The Inn Towne Riding Stable of Colonie and Sassy's Card and Gift Shop of Troy. In later years, she worked as a jewelry representative in eastern New York and western Vermont, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the Germania Hall Association, the AARP and a communicant of the former St. Francis de Sales Church.
Survivors include a son, Hal Smith of Troy; a sister, Priscilla Bailey of Albany; two grandchildren, Jacklyn Luhr of Troy and Daniel Smith of Clearwater, FL; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased four sisters, Francis Gingeresky, Theresa Hyland, Gertrude Masalais and Dorothy Hackman and two brothers, Edward and Samuel Holmes.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:30am at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10am at St. Mary's Church in Troy where where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery Troy.
