Mildred Elizabeth (Harris) Zapf

Stuart, FL - Mildred Elizabeth Harris Zapf, 96, of Stuart, FL, left this world for a far better place, one month and 28 days before her 97th birthday.  Millie was the beloved ‘Babe’ of the late Lt. Col. George W, Zapf.

Millie was born in Lawrence, MA, a daughter of the late Harry E. and Alice M. Leonard Harris. As a young woman, Millie worked for Montgomery Ward & Company before her marriage to George. Shortly after their marriage, and due to World War II, the young couple was stationed on Martha's Vineyard, MA where George, as a young Lieutenant, was in charge of the defense of the island during that time. They returned to the Troy, NY area and made their home there after the war. Millie then became a"homemaker".

Millie is survived by her best friend and daughter, Gail E. (Raymond) Gosnell, Jensen Beach, FL; her beloved grandchildren, Drew H. (Maria) McDonald, Schenectady, NY and R. Todd (Shelly) McDonald, O'Fallon, IL; her great grandchildren, Brittany M. (Amber) McDonald, Colonie, NY, Devin J. McDonald, Schenectady, NY, Sydney T. McDonald, Trafford, PA and Rylea E. McDonald, DuQuoin, IL, and a sister, Elsie C. (Joseph) Cahill, Troy, NY, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Leonard E. Harris.

At Millie's request, there will be no viewing hours. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. The family requests no flowers, donations or contributions, but that each of you take the time during your busy day to say or do something kind for someone else. Mom would like that. We are sure you are laughing, finally walking again and free of pain with Daddy at long last. Give him a hug and kiss from all of us.  We raise our glass to you Mom.. we love you.
