Mary Jane (O'Connor) Cioffi

Burden Lake - Mary Jane Cioffi, 94, of Evergreen Drive Averill Park died Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Frank C. O'Connor and Esther Gertrude Kerney O'Connor and wife for 61 years of the late William D. Cioffi.  She was raised in Albany and had resided in Averill Park since 1974.  Mary Jane became a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Nursing School in Rochester in 1947 and earned her Bachelor's degree from State University of New York at Albany in 1979. 

Mrs. Cioffi was a Registered Nurse at Brady Maternity Hospital in Albany, St. Peter's Hospital, Albany Medical Center, and for BOCES Manpower, where she taught nursing.  After her retirement, she was a substitute nurse and teacher's aide at West Sand Lake Elementary School.  She was a master at balancing her professional life with being a devoted wife and mother of seven children.

She was a lifelong member of the Burden Lake Improvement Association.  She loved hosting a great party, a day of shopping and lunch, and her cocktails. 

She was a devout Catholic and an active communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park and its Rosary Altar Society. There was nothing more important to her than family and friends and she loved to be on Burden Lake where she and “her Willy” made a great home for their family. They were the 'true love story' and delighted in watching their family gather at the lake, saying,  “Look at what we have made!”  She had a gift for making each family member feel so special and loved. 
 
A special thanks to the staff of St. Peter’s Hospital, especially 2 McCauley ICU Unit for their kind and compassionate care. 

Survivors include her children, William D. (Gwen) Cioffi, Scottsdale, AZ, Mark M. (Beth) Cioffi, West Sand Lake,  Craig F. (Katherine) Cioffi, Averill Park, Lynn (Richard) Thorpe, Averill Park, Ken T. (Colleen) Cioffi, Averill Park, Lisa ( Hon Paul) Toomey, Averill Park and Ted J. Cioffi, Averill Park; her grandchildren, Craig Jr., Kevin, Ryan, Mark II and Peter Cioffi, Billy and Evan Thorpe, Ken Cioffi II, Jessica Thompson, Adam and Alex Cioffi, Faith Skibbee, Maeve and Kean Toomey and April Cioffi; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Sally Horan, Dayton, OH and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother, Frank C. O'Connor II.

Relatives and friends may call at St. Henry's Church  39 Old Route 66 Averill Park on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 AM at the St. Henry's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas F. Holmes, Pastor.

Interment will be in  St. Henry's Cemetery Averill Park.
