Mary (Zwolenik) Tate

Wynantskill - Mary Zwolenik Tate, 84, of Todd Drive died Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Eddy Village Green after a long illness.
 
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Joseph F. Zwolenik and Julia A. (Nowak) Zwolenik. She was married to the love of her life Lowell 'Digger,' for 48 years.  She had resided in the Troy and Wynantskill areas all her life and was a 1949 graduate of Catholic Central High School. 
 
In July of 1949 Mary began working for NYS Insurance Department and was loaned to the Governor's office working with the legislative session for 2 years. She was then offered to stay as a Confidential Stenographer to the office of the Counsel of the Governor during Governor Dewey's administration.  During Governor Harriman's administration Mary was promoted to Secretary to the Assistant Counsel and then promoted to Secretary to 1st Assistant Counsel.  During Governor Rockefeller's administration she was promoted to Secretary to Counsel of the Governor and held that position through the Carey and Cuomo administration, retiring in August 1987.
 
She and her husband traveled to Maine, Las Vegas and Aruba, frequented the Saratoga Racino and Foxwood and enjoyed many Sundays at the Colonie Elks.    
 
Survivors in addition to her husband include a step-son - Alan (Pam) Tate, Troy; two grandsons, Alex and Brandon Tate; three nieces, Catherine (Richard) Shriver, Mechanicville and Mary and Michele Goyette, both of Ballston Spa; a grand nephew, Michael (Stacy) Shriver, Cleveland. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Rita (Francis) Goyette; and brother-in-law, Stanton (Beverly) Tate.
 
Relatives and friends may call at the St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Avenue Wynantskill on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 10-11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11AM by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.
 
Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery Eagle Mills.
