Mary (Wolchek) Sawyer

August 27, 1926 ~ April 17, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old

West Sand Lake - Mary Wolchek Sawyer, 88, formerly of Denver Drive died Friday, April 17, 2015, at her residence after a brief illness.

Born in Springfield, VT, she was the daughter of late Russian immigrants Vladimir Wolchek and Stephanie Rudeska Wolchek and wife of the late Daniel J. Sawyer. She was raised in Springfield, VT and resided in Fleischmanns and East Greenbush and since 1964 in West Sand Lake.  Mary was a graduate of Springfield High School in Springfield, VT.

Mrs. Sawyer worked for Milton Bradley Toy Company in Springfield, MA, Rosewood Nursing Home and was a homemaker.  Her infectious smile and constant laughter brought happiness and joy to everyone who knew her.  Mary served others; from providing incredible meals to the love and nurturing she provided that everyone so truly needs.  Mary often stated, "Stop and smell the roses." Let's indeed do that in remembrance of her.  Na Zdorovie!  Mary was a communicant of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Cohoes.

Survivors include three sons, Paul J. (Pamela) Sawyer, Palm Bay, FL and Mark D. (Nikki) Sawyer and Peter D. (Kendel) Sawyer, both of Thousand Oaks, CA; four grandchildren, Jennifer Stroup, Nicole Sawyer, Sarah Guinn, and Xander Sawyer; four great grandchildren, Reagan and Harper Stroup and Camden and Cooper Mahnensmith and a niece and two nephews, Dana, Randy, and Scott Wolchek.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 4-7 pm with a Parastas service at 6:30pm.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Cohoes where a Mass of Devine Liturgy will be celebrated by Rev. Terry Wasielewski, Pastor.

Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery Cohoes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mary W. Sawyer to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church 67 Saratoga Street Cohoes, NY  12047.
