Marjorie Francis Roy, 91

Cohoes - Marjorie Francis Roy, 91, formerly of Troy, passed away April 1 at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes after a brief illness.

She had been society editor and later a columnist with The Record Newspapers in Troy. She also had worked in development roles at the Cohoes Music Hall and at Russell Sage College.

She was the daughter of Janet and Norman Francis, proprietor of the Moncrief & Francis pharmacy at the corner of Congress and Third streets in downtown Troy.

She was the widow of John F. Roy, who had been president of The Record Newspapers before the company's sale in the early 1970s.

A graduate of Emma Willard School and Russell Sage College, she was active in alumna activities at both schools. She also was active in the English-Speaking Union and was a volunteer at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Lisa Bell of Rocky Hill, Conn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Kay Francis of Wynantskill; a niece, Dana Francis Santacana, and her husband, Jose, and son Sam, all of Washington, D.C.; and three step-children, Alice Kolb of Loudonville, Raona and John R. Roy of West Sand Lake and Dulce and Stephen Roy of Largo, Fla.

Cremation and private burial arrangements are being handled by Bryce Funeral Home, Troy.
