Marion R. Hacker, 78

West Sand Lake - Marion R. Hacker, 78, of Orchard Lane died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Samaritan Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Buffalo, she was daughter of the late George William Lohr Sr. and Cecelia Bachmann Lohr and beloved wife for 57 years of Elwood H. 'Woodie' Hacker. She had resided in West Sand Lake for 50 years and attended Salem United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer of the Memorial Committee and could always be found at the Church fair selling chicken BBQ tickets. The community always looked forward to her latest decorations at the various church functions.

Mrs. Hacker was manager of First American Bank in West Sand Lake retiring 21 years ago. Marion and Woodie enjoyed their retirement traveling to Cape Cod and Europe. Marion was very active in the community. She was a member of the Ilium Literary Club (treasurer), Troy Women's Club, Van Rensselaer Garden Club, Sand Lake Historical Society, Junior League of Troy, and was the honorary "Grandma" at Jubilee Day Care Center. She was active in the Sand Lake Council for the Arts. At this time of year, she would be found at the Hart-Cluett mansion where her decorated room for the annual Greens Show was always a favorite. Marion dedicated herself to her family, friends, and anyone who was in need.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Ellen Hacker (Richard W.) Sagar, Averill Park and Amy Hacker (Christopher R.) Bradley, Averill Park; a son, E. Charles (Tracy Sten) Hacker II, Averill Park; a brother, George W. Lohr Jr., South Carolina; her grandchildren who she adored and was so proud of, Kristin, Charlie, Allison, and Thomas; and two nieces and one nephew, Thyrza, Christina, and Bill.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 5:30 PM at the Salem United Methodist Church, Shaver Road, West Sand Lake with Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush, Pastor and Rev. Lou Guarinello, Former Pastor, officiating.

Entombment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery,Schuylerville at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests that In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Marion R. Hacker to the Salem United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Shaver Road PO Box 475 West Sand Lake, NY 12196.
