Peg Duffy, 84

Haines City, FL - Marguerite Knaus Duffy (Peg), 84, formerly of Troy, NY, died unexpectedly on December 3, 2010 in Haines City, Florida. She was the widow of Edmund J. Duffy since 2003 and was the first born of Marguerite and Donald Knaus of Syracuse, NY.

Peg was a gifted child, with a love and talent for musical instruments. She graduated from The Convent School in Syracuse and entered the College of St. Rose Nursing School at age 16. After college Peg worked as a registered nurse for several years, most notably at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. During this time she met Ed, who was just out of law school. They married in 1948 and a family soon followed.

Raising and nursing her five children became Peg's new occupation, one which she never relinquished. Five children, ten grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren later, "Granny" never stopped caring for and loving them all. Peg seldom did things half way and she passed this attitude on to her family.

Peg was a talented musician, nurse, wife, mother, cook, golfer and Granny. She was active in a number of professional and political organizations, including the Catholic Nurses Organization, the League of Women Voters, the Red Cross, and the Harvard Nurses Study. And she participated in many musical, community, church, sports, school and social organizations over the years. She had a few favorites: playing the organ first, at St James in Syracuse, N.Y., and later at 4 o'clock Saturday mass for Father Ophals at St. Mark's in Eagle Mills, living on Taconic Lake, and attending her children's athletics events at Albany Academy. But her favorite past-time was golfing with friends at Troy Country Club, Grenelefe Resort in Florida and nearly every course in between. An accomplished golfer, Peg was club champion at Troy many times and now can once again tee it up with Kay, Carol, Iry, Mary Joan and especially Margo.

Peg is survived by Kathleen Knoop (Richard) of Homosassa Springs, Fl, Donald (Jeanne) of Hollywood, Fl, Edmund (Ned) of Rockville, MD, Anthony of Troy and Helen (Betty Wong) of San Francisco, CA, plus ten grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Peg is also survived by her younger sister Dorothy (Dave) Greiner of Indian Harbour Beach, Fl. and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 9:30 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:30-7:30 PM.

Add A Private Note To The Family Guest Book
