Lowell A. Blom, 77

North Greenbush - Lowell A. Blom, 77, of Wanda Court died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late William Blom and H. Lovella Burnap Blom and husband for 44 years of Marilyn R. Ellett Blom. He resided in the Troy and North Greenbush area all his life, was a graduate of Troy Public School 14, Troy High School and Siena College (cum laude), and he completed several real estate courses at colleges around the USA.

Lowell was employed for 5 1/2 years at the New York State Department of Labor, Commerce Department and Taxation and Finance. For 32 years, he worked at the NYS Teachers' Retirement System retiring as a Mortgage Officer. After his retirement, he worked part time at Lindy's Hardware in Troy for 10 Years.

He was a Korean War veteran of the 205th Infantry Division, Army National Guard, enlisting as Private and being discharged as First Lieutenant. He was a graduate of the Empire State Military Academy.

Lowell was a member of the Order of the DeMolay and a 33rd Degree Mason of the Apollo Masonic Lodge starting on his 21st birthday. He was very active in the merger of Trinity Methodist and Fifth Avenue-State Street Methodist churches and active as a lay leader, Sunday school teacher, lay speaker, scoutmaster, finance chairman, V.P. Board of Trustees, Official Board, and Council of Ministries. Lowell was a member of Christ Church United Methodist and for many years was the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees.

Survivors in addition to Marilyn include two daughters, Karen (William) Kim, Pleasantville, NY and Linda (Heath) Johnson, West Sand Lake; a son, William Blom, Menands; and his grandchildren, Andy and Sadie Kim and Haylee and Lindsey Johnson. He was predeceased by a brother, William L. Blom.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 4-7PM.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10AM at Christ Church United Methodist 35 State Street Troy with Rev. Nina Nichols, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Lowell Blom to the Charity of one's choice
