Louis William Schisa, 84

Latham-Louis William Schisa, 84, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Eddy-Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes.

Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Rev. Ettore Schisa and Anita (Stella) Schisa and husband for 51 years of Clare M. Toolajian Schisa.

Lou earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Syracuse University and completed the Master Program in Economics at Syracuse University. He was in ROTC at Syracuse and the Glee Club and Pershing Rifles.

He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and was wounded in action during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he served in Military Government as Property Control Officer in Germany. He received the Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.

He was employed at the New York State Department of Labor, Division of Employment as a Labor Market Analyst in Binghamton. He was transferred to Albany as Chief of Labor Market Information and later became Director of the Division of Research and Statistics. He received the Vladimir Chavid Memorial Award for promoting and fostering excellence in the field of labor market information and employee security research.

He was a former member of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security and the American Economic Association. He attended Loudonville Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir and was a former member of the worship committee and was a member of Troy Chromatics Concerts. Lou enjoyed playing golf and tennis, was an avid reader, loved music, especially Opera and did woodworking and other crafts. His greatest joy was his family.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughters; Dr. Elizabeth D'Angelo and husband Dr. Kevin D'Angelo of Orchard Park, Nancy Porter and husband Dr. Michael Porter of Bennington, VT and Carol O'Grady and husband Terrance O'Grady, Esq. of Rochester, NY; seven grandchildren, William and Alexandra D'Angelo and Tara, Christopher and Alyssa Porter and Thomas and Leigh O'Grady; a sister, Esther Schisa; brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Rev. Donald Pichaske, Jack Burroughs and Marion Schisa. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters, Raymond (Eileen) and Hector Schisa, Bertha (James) Ashcraft, Martha Pichaske, Marion Burroughs, and Martha (Albert) Rokow. Also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 19 grand nieces and nephews and 11 great grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Loudonville Presbyterian Church 22 Old Niskayuna Road Loudonville with Rev. Elaine Woroby, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 4-8 PM.

Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
