Lorraine McDowell Hussey, 82

Poestenkill Lorraine McDowell Hussey, 82, of Weatherwax Road, died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after an extended illness.

Born in Shawnee, OK she was daughter of the late Harvey and Alma Gilbert McDowell and wife for 60 years on September 8th of Edwin F. Hussey. She had resided in Poestenkill since 1954 and was a graduate of Shawnee Oklahoma High School.

Mrs. Hussey was employed and for several years at New York State and then Rensselaer County Department of Taxation and Finance retiring 25 years ago. Many years ago she was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal.

Active in bowling circles, she founded and taught Junior Bowling at Hi-Way Recreation in Wynantskill since 1955. She became a Certified Coach and was appointed City Certified Supervisor through the American Junior Bowling Congress. She organized Troy Junior Bowling Association in 1959 and was elected its secretary. Mrs. Hussey started a junior bowling program for the mentally handicapped and taught for over 10 years. She was a life member of the National, State and city of Troy Women's Bowling Associations. She was a Member Emeritus and a member of the Hall of Fame, a past President and a delegate for over 40 years of The Troy Association. She was a member of the City, State and National 600 Bowling Club since 1964. In 1993 she was awarded the New York State Service To Bowling-Community award. She received her 40 year plaque from the national association this year and was active and held offices in many area bowling leagues.

She was also a 4-H leader, a life member and past President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Poestenkill Fire Company. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Eagle Mills and Crafty Ladies and the church choir and United Methodist Women.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Diane Hoffay and husband Thomas of Eagle Mills and Barbara Renfroe and husband Jack Roger Renfroe Jr. of Maynardville, TN; a son, Mark E. Hussey and wife Leslie of Pittstown; a sister, Patricia Smith of Seneca, MO; 9 grandchildren, Eric and Terry Hoffay, Joann Condon, Scott, Michelle, Danielle and Christopher LaFountaine and Michelle and Robin Christopher Hussey; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Robin H. Hussey and several brothers and sisters Harvey McDowell Jr., Sarah Jane Olmstead, Ella Mae Stewart, Earl Thomas McDowell and Eugene McDowell.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy with Rev. David Martin, Pastor of the Hope United Methodist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3-5 and 7-9PM. Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
