Wynantskill - Leo Meichtry, 88, of Baker Avenue passed away peacefully Thursday, December 4, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Switzerland, he was son of the late Leo Meichtry and Margareth Zen-Ruffinen Meichtry and husband for 63 years of Beatrice Brinkman Meichtry. He came to the United States on vacation in 1948 and never left, residing in Wynantskill.
Leo was a carpenter by trade and owner and operator of Leo's Overhead Doors on Pawling Avenue in Troy since 1972, retiring in 1985. It was carried on by his son, John and now operated by his grandson, Eric.
He was a long time member of the Wynantskill Fire Department, the Carpenters Local Union of Albany, the Troy Lodge of Elks, Kiwanis Club of Wynantskill, Germania Hall Association, Wynantskill and Poestenkill Seniors, the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill and the Mt Zion Masonic Lodge in Troy.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, John (Lorraine) Meichtry, Wynantskill; two daughters, Diane (Christopher) D'Allaird, Troy and Karen (Dr. A.M.) Jandali, Troy; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many relatives in Switzerland. He was predeceased by 2 brothers.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, from 12 Noon- 1PM with a funeral service at 1PM with Rev. Dawn Alpaugh, officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Wynantskill.
