Leanore 'Sis' Engle Russell, 91

Leanore 'Sis' Engle Russell, 91, died December 26, 2009 at the Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick, Maryland.

Born August 9, 1918, in Pottstown, PA to Samuel and LaBessa Engle, she graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1937 and married Pierce H. Russell, Sr. in 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, a former Rensselaer County District Attorney, and her four brothers Roger, Stuart, Jonah and Doug.

A resident of Troy for most of her life, she was a member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church and active in a number of civic organizations. She volunteered for swim therapy classes for the disabled, Meals-on-Wheels, and was a member of the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary. A devoted homemaker, Lee enjoyed cooking, walking, reading and playing bridge. She delighted in family and friends, of whom she made many in her lifetime.

After moving to Florida in 1996, she was a volunteer at Manatee County Hospital and Southeastern Guide Dogs of Bradenton.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her children Linda L. Russell of Upland, CA, Pierce H. Russell, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, and Carol A. Russell (David Harding) of Huntingtown, MD, granddaughters Camille Leon of Arroyo Grande, CA, and Kelsey and Ashlyn Harding of Huntingtown, MD, sisters-in-law Carol Stevens of Queensbury, NY and Rita Engle Calhoun of Troy, NY and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held next spring in Troy, NY.
