North Greenbush - Kathleen ‘Kitty’ E. Reid, 85, formerly of Glass Lake died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.
Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late William Michael Kelly and Ellen McPadden Kelly and wife of the late Dr. John H. Reid, Jr, MD. She was raised in Schenectady and resided at Glass Lake in Averill Park for many years, then Brunswick and Coburg Village in Clifton Park. She was a graduate of St. Columba’s High School in Schenectady and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Syracuse.
Mrs. Reid was a Registered Nurse for her husband, Dr. John H. Reid, Jr. in Averill Park.
She was a former president of the Board of Directors of the Rensselaer County Extension Service where she conducted surveys on the housing for the aging. She was also active in the Alzheimer’s Association, a Census Taker, and a member of Friends of Bill W for 42 years and a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park.
Survivors include her seven children, Mary Ellen (John) Wollner, South Lebanon, OH, John H. (Sandy) Reid, Valparaiso, IN, Dr. William M. (Kathleen) Reid, Salisbury, MD, Kathleen (William) Labbate, Lake Placid, Paul E. (Rita) Reid, Niskayuna, Robert F. Reid, Delmar and Martin T. (Caitlin) Reid, West Sand Lake; a sister, Ellen (Thomas) Spiewak, Schenectady; 10 grandchildren, Meredith, Charisse, Alanna, Myles, James, Fiona, Christine, Megan, Chad and Grace and 2 great grandsons, Silas and Amos.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 4-7 PM.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 10 AM at St. Henry's Church Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.
