Kathleen Marie Peters, 93

Albany - Kathleen Marie Peters, 93, of Albany, NY passed away on January 1, 2013. She was born on April 26, 1919 in Grande Prairie, Alberta to Charles and Mabel (Templeman) Dunlop.

Kathleen was a life-long care-giver. She was the valedictorian of her high school class. She earned her nursing degree from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta and was an RN with the US Army Air Corps hospital in Edmonton during WWII. She married Harold Peters in 1945 and moved to Schenectady. In 1953 they moved to Rotterdam where they raised their children. She was an RN at Albany Medical Center for many years and later worked for the Central Nursing Service until she was 78.

She was an inspirational force with a passionate and spirited personality. She celebrated diversity. She was full of life and had a wide range of interests including: organic gardening and nature; a broad spectrum of literature, art, music and history; many types of needlework and crafts; and loved to cook and bake. She played piano, loved animals, served as a Cub Scout den mother, enjoyed food from all over the globe and loved to travel. She was proud of her Scottish roots and loved bagpipe music. She was a member of many organizations and loved people and conversation.

Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Harold, and sisters, Marion Demmy and Marjorie McCardle. She is survived by her sons David (Wanda) of Cohoes, James (Debra) of Albany, Norman of Averill Park, and Gordon (Emily) of Rexford. She leaves behind ten grandchildren: Shannon Nicole Pallen (Jason) of College Point, NY); Brenton Austin (Summer) of Albany; Brandon Austin of Albany; Brendan Austin (Kimesha) of Albany; Brennan Austin-Peters of Cohoes; Erika Peters of Troy; Matthew Peters (Chelsea) of Portland, ME; Andrew Peters of Portland, ME; Zachary Peters of Natick, MA; and Jessica Peters of La Jolla, CA. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Loudonville Home for Adults, the Teresian House, St. Peter's Hospital and the Community Hospice for the exceptional care she received.
