Katherine 'Kay' H. Closson, 105

Troy - Katherine 'Kay' H. Closson, 105, of Burdett Avenue died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at her residence at The Eddy Terrace, Troy after a brief illness.

Born in Whitehall, NY, she was daughter of the late Leon Chance Closson and the late Maude Miranda West Closson. Katherine resided in Whitehall and Grafton for many years, and was a 1930 graduate of The Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY.

Kay was a teacher for 12 years in Whitehall, then during World War II worked at an Army Depot and later worked at Hayden, Stone & Co in Albany (a major Securities and Stockbroker firm.)

She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Troy; where she was an active member for many years, singing in the church choir and playing in the handbell choir.

Survivors include 2 nieces- Beverly Sprague (Late Rev. Asa) of Saratoga Springs NY, and Judith Barker (Bruce) of Spring Hill FL, 6 Great Nieces - Kate Owens (Steve) of Delmar, Jeanne Brandone (Michael) of Frisco TX, Mary Ann Wedeman (Tim) of Waterford NY, Paula Sisto of Spring Hill FL, Amanda Burns (Pete) of Gresham OR, and Amy Moore of Gresham, OR; 3 Great-Nephews - James Ogsbury of Round Lake NY, Timothy Ogsbury (Michelle) of Wilton NY, Michael Sisto of Sunapee, NH; as well as 9 Great-Great Nieces and 4 Great-Great Nephews. She is also survived by two very dear long-time friends, Virginia Palmer and Jean Miller. She was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia VanBergen (Walter); two brothers- James Harrison Closson (Lillian) and (ret.) Maj. John Closson (Agatha); and a niece - Ruth Closson Moore.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service Friday 4/4/14 at 1:00PM at Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake (Route 150 at the corner of Shaver Road) with Rev. Richard Otty, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Katherine H. Closson to the First United Presbyterian Church of Troy 1915 Fifth Avenue Troy, NY 12180.
