Joseph R. Peters, 64

Troy- Joseph R. Peters, 64,of McChesney Avenue Extension, died Sunday, December 11, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph H. Peters and Adelaide (Fuller) Peters and husband for 16 years of Clara Tozier Engwer Peters.

He had resided in Troy most of his life, a graduate of Watervliet High School and graduated from the first class out of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy .

Mr. Peters was employed at IBM Global Services for Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Albany as a Senior Information Systems Specialist and previously worked for CMA Consultants in Latham.

He was active in the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park, where he was involved in numerous committees and a Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War stationed in Vietnam. He enjoyed leather tooling and attended many craft shows. He summered at their camp at Methodist Farm on Crooked Lake and enjoyed being with family and being 'Poppa Joe' to all his grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Joseph F. Peters (Elisa) of East Nassau and Scott Peters (JoEllen) of Nassau; a daughter, Lisa Peters of Mesa, AZ; his step children, Cyndi Campana (Jerry) of Troy, Daniel Engwer (Brandi) of Averill Park, Wayne Engwer of Averill Park, Paul Engwer of East Greenbush and Kathy Tufano of Troy; a brother, Charles Peters of Troy; two sisters, Carol Cramer of Schenectady and Marion Forster of North Carolina; 17 grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittani, Valerie, Sara, Tony, Kristen, Michael, Brianna, Dakotha, Jackie, Jeremy, Jason, Joshua, Jessica, Zachary, Jake and Robbie; three great grandchildren, Cooper, Samuel and Kylie and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Covenant Route 43 in Averill Park with Rev. Richard Neal, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9pm.

Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.
