Joseph Salvatore Bellone

June 21, 1925 ~ July 29, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Cohoes-Joseph Salvatore Bellone, 91, of 8 Pasinella Way died peacefully Friday, July 29, 2016, at Eddy Village Green Cohoes in the company of his beloved and devoted wife Irene (Luft) Bellone and loving girls, Denise Shellhouse and Cathleen Phillip.

Born in Norwich, CT, on June  21, 1925 he was the son of the late Guizzepi and Santa (Franco) Bellone.  He graduated from St. Patrick's Cathedral School and the Norwich Free Academy.  He entered the Navy and was a World War II veteran stationed in Okinawa, which few words were ever spoken about. Later he attended the University of Bridgeport for his Bachelor's degree and went on to receive a Master's degree in Education.

Early on, Joe worked as a very successful insurance agent with the Metropolitan Insurance Company . He then went on to teach elementary school 5th & 6th graders specializing in mathematics and history at Ledyard Center School , Ledyard, CT where he was loved by all students and staff. After retiring in 1982 he continued his passion for teaching with Adult Education at the Five Rivers Community College.

He was an active communicant and lector at St. Patrick's Cathedral , a calling he was so very passionate about for many years.  

Joseph was married to the love of his life Irene (Luft) Bellone for 57 all to short but wonderful years.  Never a day went by that he didn't adore her and shower her with devotion.

Joe was an  avid golfer and a member of the Norwich Inn golf course. He loved to sing and play the guitar.

Joe is predeceased by his parents Guizzepi and Santa (Franco) Bellone, brothers Sam,Thomas and Dominic Bellone, sisters Ann Miller and Betty James, and nephews Kenny Miller and Russell Ensling. He is survived by his wife Irene, niece Helen Zander, his treasured girls, Dianna Keeling, Cathleen ( husband James) Phillip and Denise (husband Robert) Shellhouse. He was a proud Pa to Joey Langlois, Ryan Richard, Joshua Ensling and Racheal Ensling, and Grant Phillip. 

Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Joseph Salvatore Bellone to The Community Hospice (Gift Processing Center)310 S. Manning Blvd.Albany, NY 12208.
