West Sand Lake - John F. Piche, 82, of Climer Circle died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital after complications from a gall bladder operation.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Alfred Piche and Anna (Forest) Piche and beloved husband for 60 years of Jane M.(Slattery) Piche.
He had resided in Troy and Wynantskill for many years and in West Sand Lake for the past 20 years.
John worked for the Wynantskill Central School District for 20 years, retiring 20 years ago. Prior to that, he worked at International Harvester in Menands.
He was a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park and a Navy veteran of World War II and one of the original crew members, a plank owner, of the USS Boxer CV21 aircraft carrier stationed in the South Pacific.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Richard (Donna) Piche of East Greenbush; a daughter, Diane (James) Wells of Averill Park; four grandchildren, Eric and Adam Piche and James and Jennifer Wells and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred Jr. and Edward Piche.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:30 AM at Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:15 AM at St. Henry's Church in Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 PM.
Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John F. Piche to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County 295 Valley View Boulevard Rensselaer, NY 12144.
