John A. O'Connor, 86

Wynantskill John A. O'Connor, 86, of Marion Avenue, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late George P. and Mary Vaughan O'Connor and beloved husband for 57 years of Winifred M. Dudden O'Connor. He was raised in Troy and resided in Watervliet for 9 years and in Wynantskill since 1955. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and St. Michael's College in Vermont.

Mr. O'Connor was a life insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life for 35 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks and a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. He was also an Air Force veteran of World War II. John was extremely devoted to his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, his loving family includes a son, John E. O'Connor (Joan) of Petaluma, CA; four daughters, Kathleen M. Hayes (John) of North Greenbush, Diane M. Galuski (Gregory) of Rensselaer, Mary W. Grogan (Philip) of Wynantskill and Nancy J. O'Connor of Carson City, NV; a brother, Leo F. O'Connor (Dorothy Ann) of Albany; a cousin, who was like a brother, Rev. James J. Vaughan of Troy; eight grandchildren Tricia St. Hilaire (Alain) and Laura Hayes (and fiancé Christopher Doyle), Christopher and Colin Galuski, Patrick, Kevin and Erin Grogan and Kelly O'Connor and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary M. Hayes.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 8:30am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy and at 9:00am from Sacred Heart Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James J. Vaughan, cousin of John. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8pm. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. O'Connor to the North Greenbush Ambulance PO Box 99 Wynantskill, NY 12198 or The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144. The family wishes to especially thank the nurses of the fifth floor of St. Mary's Hospital, for their loving care.
