John H. Maggs, 80

Waterford - John H. Maggs, 80, of Fonda Road died Friday, March 9, 2012, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Norristown, PA, he was son of the late Norman Maggs and Laura Page Maggs and husband for 58 years of Elizabeth A. Hathaway Maggs. He was raised in Norristown, PA for 11 years, resided in Williamsburg, MA and Utica and many other places prior to moving to Waterford in 1965 and was a graduate of Utica High School, attended Bangor Theological Seminary and graduated from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri in 1956.

John was Physical Director of the Saratoga Springs and Binghamton YMCA's prior to the Troy YMCA where he was employed from 1964-82 and in 1982 worked with his son, driving truck for Destiny Transportation.

He was an active member of many Remote Control Modelers clubs including the EPA of Scotia, Thunderbolt's of Halfmoon, HCRC of Hadley, MA and was a member of Deer Run Senior Golf of Mechanicville. He was currently building a styrofoam glider which he hoped to fly this spring .

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Deborah (James) Quinn, Chatsworth, GA, Rebecca (James) McKay, Hanover, MD, Benjamin (Anita) Maggs, Rensselaer and Lori (Stephen) Yuzenko, Chatsworth, GA; a sister, Margaret Victor, Murphy, NC and 8 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, David W. Maggs and a grandson, Andrew Maggs.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 11-2 PM with a service to follow at 2PM with Rev. Karyl Hopp, officiating.

Interment will be in Memory Gardens Colonie.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of John H. Maggs to The Community Hospice of Saratoga County 179 Lawrence Street Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or any model airplane club.
