John L. Driscoll, 77

Great Barrington, MA John L. Driscoll, 77, formerly of Troy, died Wednesday at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, MA after a long illness.

Born in Hoosick Falls, he was son of the late Frank W. and Ann Ladden Driscoll and husband of the late Helen Maloney Driscoll, who died in 2000. He had resided in Troy most of his life and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy and St. Mary's High School in Hoosick Falls and a graduate of St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT. He attended graduate school at the State University of New York at Albany.

Mr. Driscoll retired from the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services as a social worker and worked for the Record Newspapers in Troy, working both jobs for over 30 years.

He was a past commander and life member of the Rev. Francis A. Kelley Chapter Disabled American Veteran's Chapter 38 Troy; the Father's Club of La Salle Institute in Troy; was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Troy and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was dedicated to his family and many religious charitable groups.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas M. Driscoll (Lyle) of Cazenovia, NY and John P. Driscoll (Anne) of Troy; a daughter, Nora McCarthy (James A. Jr.) of Troy; a sister, Marie Nugent of Hoosick Falls; a brother, George Driscoll (Theresa) of Hoosick Falls; seven grandchildren, Brendan, William, Thomas, Shannon and Nolan Driscoll and Deidre, James III and Jacqueline McCarthy and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank W. Driscoll Jr. and Frederick Driscoll and a sister Nancy Driscoll.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 9:30am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenue Troy and at 10:00am from St. Joseph's Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8pm.

Interment St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
