John J. DeCelle, 71

North Greenbush - John J. DeCelle, 71, of East Avenue died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Albert DeCelle and Helen E. Snyder DeCelle and husband of Carolyn Gillick DeCelle. He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute and attended Hudson Valley Community College.

John, his brother and father owned and operated the Miss Troy Diner on Pawling Avenue for 30 years since 1969 and co-owned Heff-Dees on Route 4 in North Greenbush. He worked for several years at Country True Value and as a funeral directors assistant at the Bryce Funeral Home.

He was an avid race car fan, sponsoring several local cars and drivers at Lebanon Valley and followed NASCAR. He was a diehard NY Giants fan and enlisted in the Naval Reserve.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Kathleen DeCelle of Poestenkill; a son, Michael DeCelle of Wynantskill; a brother, Albert J. (Lynda) DeCelle of North Greenbush; three granddaughters, Amanda V. and Kayla B. DeCelle and Sonya Halse; a sister-in-law, Joan Maher of North Greenbush; an aunt, Julie (Bob) Rhodes of Poestenkill and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 PM.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of CCU at Samaritan Hospital, the Vascular Unit of Albany Medical Center and Dr. Darsham Arora for their care of John.
