John L. Brady Sr.

North Greenbush - John L. Brady Sr., 96, of Sunset Avenue died Monday, October 6, 2014, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.

Born in Troy, NY, he was son of the late Luke Brady and Mary Link Brady and husband of the late Helen M. Welnhofer Brady . He had resided on Sunset Avenue in North Greenbush for many years and was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Catholic Central High School and attended Siena College. 

Mr. Brady was employed at New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for several years, retiring in 1983,  and prior to that he worked as a bookkeeper for Vogel Van and Storage.   

He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, a Communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill and was active in area golf and bowling leagues. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. 

Survivors include two sons, John L. (Susan) Brady Jr., Troy and Thomas (Diane) Brady, Fort Mill, SC; five grandchildren, Damon, Brendan, Christopher, Jaclyn and Tyler; six great grandchildren, Logan, Kallianna, Isabelle, Hailey, McKenna and McKinley; a brother, Robert (Ella) Brady, Lansingburgh;  and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Brady and Eleanor Mitchell. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Friday at 9 AM at the  funeral home and at 9:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor.

Entombment will be in  St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum Troy.

The Brady family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff on the first floor ‘A’ wing at Van Rensselaer Manor.
