Joan M. (Jacobs) Mertz

East Greenbush - Joan M. Jacobs Mertz, 77, of Troy Road died Thursday, January 19, 2017, at her residence after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Edward Julian Jacobs and Mary Crandall Jacobs and wife for 48 years of Thomas P.  Mertz. She was raised in Troy and resided in East Greenbush for the past 34 years and was a graduate of Troy schools. 

Mrs. Mertz was employed at Verizon telephone for over 35 years, retiring in 2007 as a System Secretary.

She was a member of Telephone Pioneers.    

Survivors in addition to her husband include her siblings, Jean Johnson, Averill Park,  Edward (Linda) Jacobs, Wynantskill, Daniel (Patricia) Jacobs, Troy, Louis (Tina) Jacobs, Wynantskill and Rita (Irv) Gray, Liverpool, NY; a sister-in-law, Helen Mertz; her caregivers, Mariann (Jim)  and son Jimmy Mertz, Rensselaer;  a close friend, Alex Winter, as well as extended family, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 3-5 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Monday, at 10 AM at the funeral home and at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in  St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Joan M. Mertz to the Sacred Heart Church Memorial Fund 310 Spring Avenue Troy, NY 12180.
