Janet Lohnes Hunn, age 99

Troy - Janet Lohnes Hunn, age 99, died peacefully on October 11, 2011 at The Eddy in Troy. Daughter of the late Clarence Walker and Lulu Abbott Walker, Janet lived a long and active life. She enjoyed her family and friends, bridge games, travel and her many associations, including the Junior League of Troy, Van Rensselaer Garden Club, Ilium Literary Club, Rensselaer County Historical Society, Vanderheyden Hall and the Country Club of Troy, where she was active in interclub bridge. She traveled extensively, visiting Europe, the British Isles, Canada, North Africa and throughout the United States. Janet was the sixth generation of the Abbott family in Troy. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, serving on the Altar Guild and Memorial Garden Committee.

Janet graduated from Troy High School and Russell Sage College, Class of 1933. Educated as a bookkeeper, following the death of her husband she stepped in and completed his tenure as Treasurer of the New York Dental Society. She also worked for Emma Willard School and RPI.

Janet always greeted everyone with a wonderful, warm smile and maintained a very positive outlook on life. She grew up on Hoosick Street and as a child played in the Gibson woods which she later viewed from her Beechwood apartment where she moved in 1997.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, Dr. David E. Hunn, who died in 1971. She is survived by her children, David and Florence Hunn of Troy, Donald and Martha Hunn Wilmot of Granby, CT, and Robert and Merrill Hunn of Mill Valley, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David Wilmot and his wife Diana of Campbell, CA, Donald Wilmot, Jr. of Olympia, WA, Rebecca Wilmot Love and her husband Chris of Portland, OR, David Hunn of Troy, NY and Henry Hunn, of Brunswick, NY. Janet leaves 4 great-grandchildren, Harrison and Aviva Wilmot, Chloe Wilmot Lamenzo, and Lilly Love.

A memorial service will be held on December 23rd at Noon at St. John's Episcopal Church, First and Liberty Streets, Troy, NY.
