Alice Jane Sawyer Huntley, 84

Troy - Alice Jane Sawyer Huntley, 84, of Fairfield Road died Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at home surrounded by her children.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Andrew Hewitt Sawyer and Mary Anne Rose Sawyer. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Warren E. Huntley, Jr. Jane was raised in Petersburgh and resided in Troy most of her life. She was a graduate of Troy High School, and earned her Bachelor's Degree, with High Honors,. in 1950, from Russell Sage College. She did graduate work at the American University in Washington, D.C. and also at Jacob's Pillow, University of Dance in Lee, MA.

Jane was a teacher for many years. She taught in Wynantskill, Brittonkill and the Enlarged City School District of Troy, where she retired from in 1994. Prior to her teaching career, she was an Assistant Librarian at the New York State Library.

Jane was a member of the Ilium Literary Club, Thursday Morning Club, and New York State Retired Teachers Association. She was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church where she active in the Thrift Shop, Choir and Garden Committee. She was a former member of the Country Club of Troy and the Troy Club. She was also a member and former officer of the Crescent Boat Club. Prior to marriage, she was a dancer at Jacob's Pillow.

Survivors include her children, Warren (Winn) E. Huntley, III, Troy, Elizabeth H. Huntley, Delmar, Bradford (Erin) H. Huntley, North Smithfield, RI and Matthew (Donna) Huntley, Averill Park; a brother, Robley E. Sawyer, Troy and her grandchildren, Madison and Julia Huntley and Leah and Connor Huntley. She was predeceased by a brother, Andrew H. Sawyer.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday from 4-7PM.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church 146 First Street Troy with Rev. Stephen Schlossberg, Rector, officiating.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.
