Poestenkill - Jan V. Rickard, 29, of Snake Hill Road died suddenly Friday, April 1, 2011.

Born in Albany , he was son of Christopher A. Rickard of Poestenkill and Patricia Weglarz Shaver (Blaine) of West Sand Lake. He had resided in Poestenkill most of his life and attended Averill Park Schools and the Modern School of Welding in Schenectady.

Mr. Rickard was a welder for Troy Boiler Works for the past 3 years, a union welder for Local 197, District 5 and previously worked at Burden Lake Country Club as a cook .

He enjoyed the outdoors, working on cars with friends, and skateboarding. He loved being a father.

Survivors in addition to his parents include his beloved daughter, Anna Bradford-Rickard, Berne; a sister, Gabriell A. Rickard, San Francisco, CA; his maternal grandmother, Anne M. Weglarz, Columbia, MO; step grandfather, George Olney, Westernville, NY; dear friends, Rebecca Bradford and family and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake on Thursday from 4-8 PM.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. John Provost , Pastor of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park, officiating.

Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery Troy.
