James W. Meharg, 98

Troy - James W. Meharg, 98, of Pawling Avenue Troy died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late James I. Meharg and Anna Bane Meharg and husband for 65 years of the late Jane Lane Meharg who died on March 19^th. He had resided in Troy all his life and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Troy Business College and attended Erskine College in South Carolina. Jim was a clerk for the US Postal Service at the Troy Post Office for 30 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of Retired Postal Workers, the Emerald Athletic Club, and a communicant and usher of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his children, Dr. Michael Patrick (Corinne) Meharg, Cazenovia, NY, Dr. John J. (Chris) Meharg, San Francisco, CA, Patricia A. (Peter) Edelman, Averill Park and Kitty (William Hammond) Weldon, San Anselmo, CA; his grandchildren, Jesse, (Colleen), Erin Lane Harris, (Carlton), Emily Lane, Phoebe, Zoe and Livia Meharg and Finn Patrick and Beck Thomas Weldon; a great granddaughter, Riley Quinn Meharg. Special thanks to Pete Edelman for his unwavering support to both Jane and Jim and also to their caregiver Ken Boyer, for his welcome presence in their lives. James was predeceased by his siblings, Agnes Aalto, Kathryn Meharg and Dr. John R. Meharg.

A Memorial Service will be held in June with interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet.
