James J. Larson Sr., 82

Brunswick-James J. Larson Sr., 82,of Meadowbrook Lane died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at his residence after a long illness surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the son of the late Franklin Larson and Mary (Linden) Larson and husband of Thomasina 'Tomi' Oviatt Larson.

He was raised in New Rochelle, NY and resided in the Troy area most of his life and was educated at Young High School in New Rochelle, NY and earned a BS in civil engineering from RPI in 1949. The family summered at the lodge on Dyken Pond.

Jim was President of Oviatt Plumbing and Heating Distributing Co. Inc. in Lansingburgh which he joined with his father-in-law, George Thomas Oviatt over 55 years ago, retiring 4 years ago.

During World War II he was a highly decorated B-17 Army pilot, flying 20 missions over Berlin, Hamburg and Dresden out of London. He was an active communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy where he was a member of the Men's Choir, a money counter and active in the construction project of the new sanctuary. Jim was active in civic affairs being a member of the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors for 44 years and received the Frank W. Kennedy Memorial Award for service in 1996 and the Bronze Keystone Award and Service Bar. He was also a member of the Country Club of Troy, the LaSalle Institute Fathers Club, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, ASCE, Newman Club and Inter-fraternity sports. He was a longtime supporter of RPI Hockey and an avid NY Giants fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his son, James J. (Jay) Larson Jr. (Emily) of Troy, two daughters, Patricia (Patti) Stateler (Jay) of Golden, CO and Marianne (Annie) Larson of Brunswick; two brothers, John Larson of NJ and Theodore (Tom) Larson of Naples, FL; his beloved grandchildren, James J. (Jay) Larson III, Katie and Christopher Larson and Kristine and Laura Stateler and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary O'Neill and Suzanne Larson.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church North Lake Avenue Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Randall Patterson, Pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 4-8 PM.

Interment Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
