James H. Duncan, 78

Speigletown - James H. Duncan, 78, of Malrick Road died Monday, July 18, 2011, at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late James E. Duncan and Louise Garrison Duncan and husband for 47 years of Jane Garrity Duncan. He was a native of Sycaway and had resided in Speigletown for the past 45 years. He was a graduate of Troy High School, Albany Business College and completed the Albany Institute of Banking courses at West Point.

As a young man, he was employed at Marine Midland Bank for 17 years, managing both the Speigletown and Brunswick offices. He later worked for National Savings Bank in Albany as the loan officer and retired 20 years ago.

He was a past member of the Speigletown Fire Company, a member of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks and the Albany Institute of Banking. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War stationed in Okinawa.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Lisa E. Teller (Joseph Reed), Stephentown; two sisters, Marilyn (Michael) Esposito, Ravena and Sheryl (late John) Burns, Saugerties; two step granddaughters, Halsey Reed and Laken Edwards; a brother-in-law, Donald (Gail) Garrity and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Garrity. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Duncan and brother-in-law, William Garrity.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday from 4-6 PM. Funeral service will follow at 6 PM with Rev. C. Joseph Ingraham, officiating.
