Jack W. Hanby, 85

Troy Jack W. Hanby, 85, of Troy Garden Apartments, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital Troy.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Clifford and Grace Howes Hanby and husband for 56 years of Alice Snyder Hanby. He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School.

Mr. Hanby was employed at the New York Telephone Company for 32 years retiring in 1978.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, enlisting in the 105th Infantry, 27th Division and spent 5 years in the Pacific Theatre of operations, where he was wounded in Okinawa and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Hanby was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy and was an avid reader and golfer.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter Patricia Kappes and husband Jack of Melrose; two grandchildren John H. Kappes III of CT and Hope Miller of Albany; two great grandchildren Katerina and Christian Kappes of CT; a sister Harriet Topping of FL and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers George, Emerson, Robert and Arthur Hanby.

Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours at the request of Mr. Hanby. Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.
