Howard M. Teal, 68

Troy - Howard M. Teal, 68, of Gene Avenue died Monday, March 21, 2011, at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Marshall H. Teal and Ethel Dunham Teal and husband for 38 years of Gail Bonesteel Teal. He had resided in Troy all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School and Hudson Valley Community College in addition to many professional courses throughout his career. He and his wife traveled to the Bahamas, Myrtle Beach, and Hampton Beach for many years.

Howard was Senior Investigator for the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office from 1973-2010, working for eight District Attorneys. He also was a member of the Troy Police Department for 27 years retiring in 1996 as a Sergeant.

He worked as a Patrolman and Supervisor working in the Detective Bureau, I.D., Juvenile Bureau, and SOS Drug Unit. He worked closely with the Rensselaer County Rape Counselors and was on the Rape Crisis Advisory Board. As an investigator with the D.A's office for the past 34 years he investigated or aided in the investigation and prosecution of almost every major crime in Rensselaer County, and more recently, as Senior Investigator of the D.A.'s office he took on Administration duties including Asset Forfeiture. He also was a member of the Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association, Board of Directors of the Troy PBA, Fraternal Order of Police and the Troy Lodge of Elks.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Elizabeth A. Donovan, Erin L. Teal and Rhonda L. Teal; was stepdad to Taryn Duncan and Craig M. Duncan; his grandson, Kobe Teal; his special granddaughter, Tyler Anne Duncan and two nephews, Donald M. and Mark D. Christensen. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley A. Christensen.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday from 4-8 PM.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Deacon Paul Carney, Troy Police Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in Memory Gardens Colonie.
