Welcome to the memorial page for

Helene (Cahill) Fox

January 17, 1925 ~ August 31, 2015 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Troy - Who shall we call when we’re happy, who shall we call when we are sad. The voice that so often cheered us, calmed us and celebrated with us is gone. Our beloved mother, Helene Cahill Fox, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 and our lives will never be the same again. Together with our father, the late Thomas E. Fox, she gave us lives full of love, laughter and guidance; experiences and education, and the knowledge that nothing mattered more than her family.

The daughter of Joseph A. Cahill and Helen Sage Cahill, Helene was born in Troy and spent most of her life in the area, except for the early years of her marriage when she resided in both Hudson and Utica. For over 50 years, summer was always spent at our A-frame at Babcock Lake and trips to the ocean. After Dad’s retirement, their winters were spent in Florida.

She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School, Catholic Central High School and Russell Sage College. A dietitian, she worked in several area hospitals, including Samaritan Hospital in Troy before the birth of her daughters, Michelene and Heliena.

In addition to her family, Helene loved animals. From her childhood dog to her many grand-dogs, cats, horses, there were always animals around—even if they weren’t ours. She also loved to travel. Her trips to England, Ireland, Aruba and Hawaii were among her favorites. She was a wonderful cook, she excelled in sewing, she enjoyed decorating and especially fashion—Helene was always in style. Our lives were filled with poetry and music, mom had a beautiful voice and our home was often filled with her songs.

Helene is survived by her loving family: her daughters and their husbands, Michelene Fox Wilson and Win Wilson, and Heliena Fox and David Shaddock. Her grandchildren, Corinne and Cahill Wilson and Kendra Fox Shaddock, the lights of her life. Her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Elsie Cahill. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, their spouses, children, and grandchildren and her in-laws, Dr. Robert Fox and Mrs. Kay Nash.

Heliena and Michelene would like to thank the extraordinary caregivers at The Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center. They not only cared for our mother, they cared deeply about her.
