Helen L. Filkin Hendry, 85

Brunswick - Helen L. Filkin Hendry, 85, of Mellon Avenue Sycaway died Thursday, December 1, 2011, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late George Filkin and Katherine Dater Filkin and wife of the late Thomas E. Hendry Jr. She had resided in the Troy area all her life and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing and attended Russell Sage College.

Mrs. Hendry was a Registered Nurse at Samaritan Hospital and Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a volunteer with Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and the Brunswick Library and enjoyed bowling and traveling. During World War II, she was drafted into the Army WACS.

Survivors include her son - Thomas C. (Michele) Hendry, Brunswick; two daughters - Carol Dwyer, Troy and Sara (Stephen) Ryan, Poestenkill; her grandchildren, Shane and Rachel Hendry, Brunswick, Sara and Mary Dwyer, Troy and Stephen Jr. and Thomas Ryan and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Gillian Hendry and two sisters, Katherine Virginia Janson and Lois K. Hollenbeck.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11AM at the funeral home with Rev. David Martin, officiating.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery Troy.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to Helen's caregivers, Diana, Patty, Stephanie, Julie and Jamie and her granddaughter, Rachel, and all the support of The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County .

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Helen L. Hendry to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
