Helen Custo Fischetti, 96

East Greenbush - Helen Custo Fischetti, 96, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Evergreen Commons East Greenbush.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late James Custo Sr. and Catherine Centrella Custo and wife of the late Theodore L. Fischetti. She had resided in Troy all her life and was a graduate of St. Anthony's School, Catholic Central High School and Allen's School of Commerce in Troy.

Mrs. Fischetti was employed as a manager's secretary of the Hendrick Hudson Hotel, secretary of the Board of Northern Hotels and laboratory secretary at the Rensselaer County Health Department until her retirement in 1975.

Active in the community, she was a communicant of St. Anthony's Shrine Church and soloist in the choir and Sacred Heart Church, secretary of the former Italian Welfare League, secretary of the former LaSalle Institute Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Sacred Heart School Auxiliary. She had a lead role in the dramatic society, the Georgia Honey Boys, many years ago. Mrs. Fischetti was a member of the Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Civil Service Employees Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Kay Blake (Robert) of East Greenbush; a son, Bernie Fischetti of Troy; five grandchildren, Laura Empie (Robert), Robert Blake (Linda), Anthony Fischetti, Tara Polmateer (Adam) and Kimberly Blake; four great grandchildren, Megan and Jack Empie and Alex and Timothy Blake; a niece, Bernadine Terpening and two nephews, Peter Fischetti and James DeMeo. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Dr. Joseph M. Custo and Mary P., Lucille, Daniel and Michael Custo and James Custo Jr.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 2-4 PM.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.

The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Commons Greenbush Lane wing for their care.
